Feeling Better through Nutrition

1. The first step is digestion, where the stomach starts to break down our food and acts as a barrier to bacterial and viral invasion, and the pancreatic enzymes aid in food breakdown and nutrient absorption. It has been said that we aren't what we eat—we are what we eat and absorb! Total enzymes are the plant enzymes that will work in a wide variety of pHs, and they are very gentle. If people are lacking HCl (typical signs are indigestion, skin problems, asthma, allergies, etc.), then they may prefer to go with Hypo D, which contain HCl and pancreatic enzymes.

2. The second step is making sure that the gut lining is not "leaky". Newsweek published and article called "Gut Reactions", in which they noted that tiny leaks in the small intestine can play a role in disease as diverse as arthritis and asthma (Nov 17, 1997:95-99). Most people have some degree of leakiness, from exposure to toxins, aspirin/ibuprofen or other medications, bacterial/viral infections, disease, etc. Nutrients like glutamine and NAG, along with minerals like zinc and herbs such as cat's claw help heal the gut lining, boost the immune system, improve nutrient absorption and prevent bacterial and viral invasion. Total Leaky Gut has all the nutrients to heal the gut lining properly.

3. The third step is making sure that the everyday toxins we are exposed to do not build up in our system and also that a "daily detox" is removing stored toxins from the body. We are exposed to an amazing amount of toxins, from environmental poisons to cell waste that is not properly eliminated. As these build up, we lose the ability to ward off disease, and the body starts to break down. As an example, The National Academy of Sciences estimates the average American ingestion of pesticides such as DDT (in food sources alone) to be 40 mg, and also estimates that we carry about a tenth of a gram (100mg) stored in body fat. Even though DDT was banned by the US, it is exported and then international foods containing DDT are imported. It is important to detox gently and safely; supported by nutrients to draw toxins out so that they don't redeposit (can happen during fasting). This is why it is so important to supply all the nutrients to pull toxins out and to detox ALL of the seven detox pathways. Total Systemic Detox has all of the herbs and nutrients to detox through the liver, lungs, bowels, kidneys, skin, lymph, and blood. Mixed into a Hi-Pro soy protein shake allows the body to rest, detox and improve functioning.

4. The fourth step is balancing bowel flora. Poor diets, antibiotics, candida, and a host of other factors beat down one of the most valuable assets to our immune system that we have—our natural probiotics. Total Probiotics contains an assortment of probiotics that work on different levels, and each one has a different role in the immune system. This is NOT just lactobacillus acidophilus. It is a proven formula of different intestinal flora to boost the immune system and keep bacteria in check
